How To Buy Auto Insurance

No matter what you buy, the old adage rings true: Think before you buy. This is even truer when you buy auto insurance. There’s a lot out there to look at, and everyone is screaming for you to buy from their company. Just take a look at the TV ads sometime. Not everyone is going to be the best choice for you, though, even though everyone wants your business. Every Washington auto insurance company has to stay in business, and that means that they need YOU as a customer. Before you think that’s a great thing, though, be careful. Any insurance company’s main motivation is not going to be to give you the best coverage at the best price for you. Instead, what they want to do is to make a profit I getting money from you. It’s up to you to do the homework as necessary so that you buy auto insurance that’s going to be the best coverage for you, at the cheapest rate you can find.

First, consider your recent driving history. If you have recent accidents or traffic tickets of any kind, be prepared to pay a bit more. Everyone is going to pay a different price, so do not be surprised if you end up having to pay more than some of the other people you know. Insurance companies base the amount of money you will pay on a variety of different factors including your age, driving history, type of vehicle, amount of safety features, and whether or not you are applying for full coverage or simple liability.

You’ll also need to figure out what type of insurance you have to carry by law in your area. For Washington State, you may need certain minimum requirements to be met in order to buy insurance, although you should check to see what’s necessary for in your area. Even though you may have to carry a minimum of coverage, though, you should never carry what you don’t need.

It’s also a common misconception that differences in price won’t matter that much, but that’s not true. You could be paying hundreds more, in fact, than you need to. Because insurance agents are in this to make money, they want you to pay as much as they can get out of you. Therefore, don’t listen to your insurance agent and instead do your homework, paying only for the coverage you need when you buy auto insurance and not more — and paying only the money you need to for that coverage, and not more.

Again, do your homework before you buy auto insurance. Go to your favorite search engine, type in, “buy auto insurance” or “best Washington auto insurance rates” and then hit “enter”. You should come up with a number of different websites that will let you comparison shop and get initial quotes.

As you are doing your comparison-shopping, make sure you have all of the necessary information available. For example, a provider may want to know what make and model of car you drive, what safety features the car has, any accidents or tickets you’ve had, how old you are, and so on. You should know that not every provider is going to want ALL of this information from you, but it’s a good idea to have it all on hand anyway. That way, you can get quotes from providers easily.

Make sure to compare at least 10 different companies before you buy auto insurance. Also, have your phone right beside you because once you provide your personal information, you’re likely to be receiving a call within a couple of minutes. Not every quote comparison website will give you a call, but some definitely will, so be prepared. They’re not calling to be annoying, but only to assist you in making the best decision.

In the event that you do receive a few calls from various auto insurance agents, take advantage of it. Ask questions and ask if they have any specials going on. Also, find out if you are eligible to receive discounts. Not all companies will provide you with this information upfront unless you ask. After spending a few hours online and on the phone, you should be satisfied with your decision. Remember to take your time and find out as much as possible before you buy auto insurance, because once it’s all said and done, knowing that you saved yourself a great deal of money is the best feeling ever.
