Car Crime Affects 15% Of Dubliners

Thursday, October 28th, 2010

Around 15% of Dublin motorists, almost 10% of motorists nationally, have been the victim of car crime within the last two years, according to new research. This disturbing revelation came from a recent online poll carried out by AA Insurance. From a total of 6,500 responses nationwide, 3.7% of motorists had either had their car stolen or had an attempt made to steal it in the last two years.

6.5% of those who took part in the survey said their vehicles were broken into or an attempt was made. AA spokesman, Conor Faughnan, said car crime is “clearly a major problem and one that is on the rise.” He added: “It means a big bill and, for those who do not have no-claims discount protection, a rise in insurance costs”.

New technological advances such as car immobilisers have helped us to fight back against car crime. For many years we were able to reduce the incidences of car crime. This trend however might start reversing if we are not careful. Car thieves are smart and they will find a way around your security systems.

A growing trend in car crime methodology is to steal the keys to the car. This makes bypassing all the sophisticated lock systems very easy. Thieves will target your homes for a bunch of keys and it is widely reported that these thieves will try ‘fishing’ for keys. This technique involves putting a pole through the letterbox and trying to hook the keys left in the hallway.

Hopefully being aware of this fishing technique will make you think twice about leaving your key in an unsecure place. This will greatly decrease the chance of you becoming just another car crime statistic.

With scary statistics like those above you need to make sure that your car is insured. AXA will provide cheap car insurance quotes and commercial van insurance quotes.

Information About Young Adult Teen Drivers In The United States

Saturday, October 23rd, 2010

Turning the driving age is a proud time for just about every young person in America. Turning this age signals the beginning of a new freedom that has never been there. It signals the time of oncoming adulthood. For their families, it signals a dangerous time. This is a time where new freedom has combined with a fearlessness that can cause injury and even death. Young drivers in America, it is time for you to be more careful.

Every parent wants to take care of their child as they are growing up. They worry about everything they do. When they hand over the keys for the first time, this is still true and even more so than every before. For now, they are not going to be by their side as they venture out in a car with friends for the first time. In 2007, there were a terrible number of young teen drivers that were killed in car wrecks. There were over 7,000.

In fact, this is the leading cause of death for people at this age. And, that is cause for parents to become scared when their child reaches this time in their life. Another horrible statistic is that these drivers do not even represent seven percent of all the drivers in the United States.

Being that this is the number one cause of death for people at this age, it would be a good idea to pass this knowledge on. It is vital information. And, there are over two hundred fifty thousand drivers at this age every year that end up in car wrecks.

These kids die at a rate that is two times the rate of all other drivers. This is inexcusable. Teach your teen the value of being safe and follow all road rules.

Most of the accidents that involve the young people in this country are due to excessive speeds they are driving at. And, to make matters worse, thirty percent of those include the use of alcohol end up being killed. That is a number no one can live with.

These young drivers feel that they are able to defy death and that injury is out of their reach. They are more wrong than they know. Parents need to educate their children on driving safety and the hazards of driving recklessly.

Get complete details and information about the steps to take to get the most affordable young drivers insurance easy and fast! When you are looking for car insurance, comparing quotes will help you to find the best coverage on a budget!

Getting The Correct Auto Insurance In Canada

Friday, October 15th, 2010

If you live in Canada and you drive then you are going to need some kind of auto insurance to ensure you are not breaking the law. It is a legal requirement but in each province there can be subtle changes as to what is required so care has to be taken to be sure you have everything that is required. So here are some tips on how to get the correct auto insurance in Canada.

First of all to explain about differences in the provinces you have to discover if every part of the insurance comes from a private company or if the government for the province is involved in one part. It does mean that without one part of it you are not fully covered.

An example is Quebec where the government takes charge of the insurance regarding damage to the public through injury whilst private companies handle the insurance regarding property. However, the government is only involved if the accident occurs within Quebec and the private company is responsible for insuring you for everything should you be outside the province.

With every part of Canada it is essential that you supply them with full and accurate details when getting your insurance. If they are not accurate then should you make a claim the policy can be declared null and void and you are no longer covered. Even when you are just getting quotes ensure they are accurate or the quote itself shall be wrong.

It is important to know that should you loan your car to someone and they are involved in an incident it is still your insurance that is at risk. In essence your insurance is for that car and if you transfer the use of the car even for a single journey you are actually transferring your insurance with it. If they have an accident then it is your policy which is going to change.

So when you are looking at getting your insurance it is important that you look around the private companies that operate within your province. This is much better as they know the full details of what is required and there can also be government advice on limiting what can be charged for the average rate premium. You can easily search on a per province basis to get quotes from companies at the one time.

Often the insurance you pay can increase or decrease according to certain factors. The longer you go without a claim the cheaper it can get up to a certain point. You may also look at getting a special accident policy included which means if you have been driving for a few years without incident then you have a small bump it does not have to affect your premiums. Clearly if you claim on a regular basis your premiums are going to increase. In Alberta this is known as the Grid Step system.

So when you are getting your Toronto auto insurance be aware of the legal requirements for your province before proceeding. It means you shall not be caught out and discover your policy is not valid when you need it most. Always be aware of giving the correct details and also shop around for better quotes if possible.

A Ghost Moved My Car!

Friday, October 8th, 2010

It’s not every day the world of motoring and the supernatural collide in a real-life ‘who done it’ that would have spooked even Mrs. Marple, a motorist called her local council to ask them if ghosts had moved her car.

This is clearly a case for the ghost busters not the police force. Sutton in south London is not known for its ghosts so the police force was understandably sceptical. The woman made a frightened call expalining that the car ‘moved of its own accord’. What could of caused this to happen?

Instead of contacting the ghost busters the police decided to check out the local CCTV to see if they could shed some light on the situation. Unsurprisingly, the car was found to have moved by itself. The handbrake was not on and that caused the car to roll back into another car parking space behind it. There was no supernatural interference just super stupidity at work. Are there car insurance companies out there that provide ghost cover on their insurance policies?

Back on home soil in Ireland there was positive news from the car sales industry. Figures for new car sales have been increasing by 47% between January and July when compared to the same period last year. The Society of the Irish Motor Industry report that over 70,000 cars were sold in this period. This compares to a figure of just 57,000 for the previous year. Out of all the cars that were sold the best performing model was the Ford Focus. Diesel cars were the other big winners on the Irish market, probably because of lower tax dues.

The report by the Society of the Irish Motor Industry (SIMI) also highlighted the car scrappage scheme as being a primary cause of the increase. It seems like the government can actually do something right after all. It is estimated that over 8,500 car sales could be attributed to this new piece of legislation. It is possible to save 1500 on this scheme and this has helped to revitalise the ailing motoring sector. Combine this with great insurance deals at AXA and the cost of motoring can be seen to be coming down.

120 Kilometre Traffic Jam In China

Tuesday, October 5th, 2010

There are traffic jams and then there are Chinese ‘traffic jams’. We all know that feeling of being stuck in our car in bumper-to-bumper traffic that’s barely moving. Fifteen minutes passes and you’ve moved less than 10 metres. Your blood starts to boil as you watch pedestrians out for a quiet stroll passing you out and with Electric Picnic underway this may be something that Irish motorists may be experiencing this weekend. But before you succumb to the temptation to abandon your car out of desperation, spare a thought for our Chinese motoring counterparts who have been stuck in the traffic jam to end all traffic jams

Unsurprisingly, the tailback in China was one of the largest ever on record. This is not the claim to fame you want to be associated with or stuck in. The traffic jam lasted for 9 days; not nine minutes or even nine hours - nine whole days! That is a great excuse for taking the week off work.

A traffic jam was cleared in the week previous to the 120km tailback. A large queue had just been cleared by the authorities in China, when a much bigger and better traffic jam formed shortly after.

The new jaw dropping traffic jam occurred in the Chinese region of Inner Mongolia. The traffic jam was heading towards Beijing and the province of Hebei. Coal trucks from Inner Mongolia were primarily affected by the traffic jam. More than 10,000 of these trucks had to ground to a halt. This specially built ‘car park’ is not quite their final destination. It must seem like hell to the truck drivers.

Nobody in Ireland can claim to have been in this size of a traffic jam so we need to keep things in perspective. Driving conditions in Ireland have improved with the upgrading of the M50 and the plethora of new motorways opened around the country. The chances of finding yourself in a tailback from Roscrea all the way to Dublin are very slim.

Bumper to bumper traffic jams can be a serious pain. What is not a pain is AXA’s cheap car insurance online. Check out our excellent insurance for young drivers now.

Road Rage Is A Leading Cause Of Road Deaths In The UK

Monday, September 13th, 2010

In Britain, almost 800 lives are being lost every year through road rage incidents and disrespectful driving. This is a very high figure for such an avoidable cause. This stat was discovered in a report by AXA insurance UK. That report also highlighted that 1 billion (945m) worth of insurance premium was lost due to these incidents. If people could just calm down on the roads then many lives could be saved and it would make things cheaper for everyone too.

This report also highlighted other important driving stats. For example, almost four out of ten drivers involved in accidents this year have reported that in the vital moments before the crash, they have been scared or angered by other road users. Out of this 40% figure, more than half report that inconsiderate driving involved speeding; a quarter of people said it was driving erratically and one fifth said that the offending driver was ignoring the rules of the road.

Peter Marsh, a motoring psychologist, read the AXA report and had the following comments to make “The AXA study highlights clearly the powerful psychological forces at work when we get behind the wheel of a car”. He also adds: “Our cars may be safer than before and our roads increasingly designed to reduce accidents but unless we recognise and deal with the strong emotional aspects of driving, the factors that give rise to uncharacteristic belligerence and sheer bloody-mindedness, we may never be able to reduce much further the amount of people who die unnecessarily on Britain’s highways.”

An interesting point made by AXA UK is that it calculates that around 35 per premium pays for accidents caused by disrespectful driving, and as well as these costs, the British motorist is also paying an estimated 30 per premium for uninsured drivers. AXA Ireland would like to hear from you. Do you think Irish motorists get more frustrated than our UK counterparts? Are the Irish more liable to a bit of road rage?

If you are a cool, calm and reserved motorist, well AXA Ireland rewards safe driving with up to 75% No Claims Discount on our car insurance.

A car accident can occur at any time. Make sure that you are fully covered with AXA insurance. We have many competitive policies including young drivers insurance and commercial van insurance

As The Recession Bites Fraud Becomes A Bigger Problem

Friday, August 6th, 2010

As Ireland’s recession forces most people to adjust to their changed circumstances, a growing trend in insurance fraud indicates that some are finding other ways to ’supplement’ their lifestyles. With the country’s top bankers getting to keep their million euro bonus many may feel that they too are entitled to their piece of the action.

Although it is often assumed that people commit fraud for personal gain, the reality can be more complex. Maintaining personal reputation or the avoidance of loss can be strong motivators. As people lose their jobs, the pressure to commit fraud to maintain a lifestyle beyond their reduced means increases.

The Irish Insurance Federation is a representative body for insurance companies. They have identified the growing trend of insurance fraud and are battling hard to stop it. Michael Horan from the IIF states “there is definitely an increase in claims in the recession”. Internal statistics show that the number of tip-offs to insurance fraud claims via a confidential phone line have increased by over 50% in the year 2009 when compared to 2008. These figures clearly highlight that there is something wrong. Numbers do not surge like this without a reason. The reason in this case is the recession. If the recession deepens then the insurance fraud levels are also likely to increase.

The Irish Insurance Federation put a strong focus on detecting and preventing fraud over 10 years ago. Part of this plan of action involved the creation of a database of high risk claimants. Their details were stored on a database which could be checked by insurance companies. Nick Starling of the ABI says ‘Whether claiming against a third party for bogus personal injury or on their own insurance, fraudsters are more likely than ever to get caught, leading to more expensive and harder-to-obtain insurance and credit and the possibility of a criminal record’.

The chances of you and your family falling into financial difficulty has multiplied over the last few years. With tougher budgets to come things are likely to get worse. To many, insurance fraud will be the only solution to maintaining a lavish lifestyle. The insurance companies are aware of this situation and are battling back. Insurance fraud hurts everyone and insurance companies do not want these levels rising.

AXA take insurance fraud seriously and pass on the benefits to our customers. Axa car insurance Ireland provide competitive car insurance quotes and van insurance quotes.

The Benefits Of Getting Older…in Terms Of Your Car Insurance

Sunday, July 25th, 2010

You are another year older and another grey hair on the head. It is not all bad news though as some things get better with age. Take for example your car insurance. If you are over 22 and have a full license then you are probably much better off now with AXA insurance. Chances are that you now have a ‘Drivers of Other Cars’ policy extension included.

AXA covers most of our customers (aged over 22 years with a full licence or 25 years old with a full or provisional licence) while driving other people’s cars. This means you can drive someone else’s car and automatically have Third Party cover on it (without being a named driver on the owner’s car insurance), as long as you have been given permission to drive the car.

The ‘Driving of Other Cars’ extension is a valuable thing to have. Just imagine yourself in the following situation: You and 2 friends have decided to drive to the coast this weekend for some surfing. Instead of taking 3 cars your friend offers to drive everyone down. The weekend is might craic but your friend had 1 or 5 drinks too many and is now over the limit and too sick to drive anyway. What do you do now? If you have AXA’s ‘Driving of Other Cars’ extension then you are cobered to jump into the driver’s seat and drive everyone home safe in the knowledge that you are covered by third party insurance.

There are some pre-conditions to getting this cover. You can only access this cover if you are not the car owner and have not hired it under a hire purchase agreement. If you look at your insurance certificate you can easily see whether you are covered or not by checking out section 5(b).

Whilst the cover offered to you by the “Driving of Other Cars” policy extension is a coveted thing to possess, it does not cover every vehicle. This extension applies to private passenger vehicles only. This excludes vehicles such as vans, car-vans, jeep type vehicles with no backseats, and vans that are adapted to carrying passengers. So be aware of this in the future.

Customers that have been with AXA for 3 or more years with comprehensive insurance will be upgraded. The 3rd party “Driving of Other Cars” extension will now be transformed into comprehensive “Driving of Other Cars” cover for free. This offer now means that when you are driving home your friend’s car after a holiday you are covered if you accidently damage their car. This insurance offer is unmatched in Ireland.

Don’t let old age get you down, buy AXA car insurance Ireland today. AXA also sell classic car insurance today.

Instant Online Insurance Quote Will Save Time And Money

Saturday, July 24th, 2010

Just about everyone has been there before, acknowledging its about time to find a new insurance company, or maybe we need to insure our new automobile or home. During the days before the internet, there was the challenging task of getting insurance quotes by contacting insurance agents either by way of phone or in person. Many people remember days when we were required to call insurance broker after insurance broker looking to find that ideal affordable insurance quote, that had the most suited coverage. Numerous hours spent on the telephone talking with different insurance agents, and with every single call to a new agent had to go over and give the same information and answer the identical questions each time.

Obviously it is safe to state that this process would take a great deal of ones most valuable time, time most of us just didn’t have then, as we do not now, with our busy frantic lives. Along comes the Internet and internet based insurance brokers. Amazing, this is becoming a terrific time saver and even more so money saver. How simple can it be to merely visit a site, enter a little bit of information and get the rates instantly? Incredibly easy and convenient.

Receiving an instant insurance quote online via the internet is incredibly uncomplicated and just plain old effortless. Generally all you would need to do is fill out a couple of items in a form and and then click submit. This allows you to receive quotes almost immediately. You could receive 10 different quotes, from 10 different insurance companies in just 10-minutes by benefiting from these instant insurance quote online systems on these agency or brokers websites.

So, what you should expect is as soon as you get the quote via email, whether it is instant online auto insurance quotes, or perhaps home owners insurance, life insurance or other form of insurance; You first should carefully read each quote, and once you decide which of the insurance quotes best meets your requirements, you would then follow the information or instructions included in the email, typically a link to the insurance agents internet site. Sometimes the insurance company may need further information such as age, driving record, and vehicle type (if looking for an auto insurance quote). The prices will vary from company to company.

The instant online insurance quotes which you will get are guaranteed to be competitive and usually at a far lower rate than many store front agency rates. The Power Nap And Driver Safety

Wednesday, July 14th, 2010

Are you a power napping expert? Nowadays power napping or quick snoozing is a very fashionable thing to do. In the old days it was just old men who would consider taking a power nap, but not anymore. The times have certainly changed. The beauty of power napping is that it might even one day save your life

The RSA reports that driver fatigue could be a contributory factor in 1 in 5 deaths in Ireland. Can you imagine the horrific impact here? Your body is limp and asleep and therefore you make no last second evasive move. Just bang and the lights go out for good.

Driving when fresh and alert is the best way of driving safely. The chances of you becoming another road death stat are minor. This obvious fact still does not prevent people from getting in their cars and driving home exhausted from work. This is very dangerous for you and other drivers on the road.

Once your eyes start getting heavy in the car then you are in trouble. Turning up the radio, rolling down the windows or pulling over and stretching your legs will only have a temporary effect. The underlying problem will reappear quickly and you will once again become a danger on the road.

There is only one way to battle this problem and that is through the power of caffeine and snoozing. Stop at your nearest petrol station and buy a coffee. The caffeine usually takes 20 mintues to kick in so here is where your power nap comes in handy. Sleep for 20 mins and when you wake you should be alert again. This is not an ideal solution but it might just save your life.

With the August bank holiday almost upon us, the roads will be a dangerous and busy place over the weekend. So it’s great to see the RSA and Topaz once again promoting their ‘Driver Reviver’ campaign’. Free coffee will be available at over 100 outlets on this Friday so please avail of the service if you’re planning a long road trip (terms & conditions may apply).

AXA urges everyone to please take care on Irish roads next August bank holiday weekend - arrive home safely.

If the above article scares you then pay a visit to AXA online for cheap car insurance. We sell a wide variety of auto insurance products at low prices
